Anne Marie Perks is a painter, illustrator, designer and educator. She has illustrated three books for a small publisher in the United States; The Tortoise Who Bragged, Clever Calculator Cat and Clever Calculations by Cats and Other Cool Creatures , and her work also appears in the anthology, Lines in the Sand: New Writing About War and Peace published by Frances Lincoln in the UK, and in The Complete Ginseng Handbook by Jacques MoraMarco. Her paintings have won awards in juried exhibitions in the United States and she has worked as an art director, designer and illustrator for publishers, design studios and corporations.

Love of story and the rich visual world that emerges from them began with Anne-Marie's first library card at the age of five. She earned a degree in fine art in 1977 with an emphasis in ceramics and 3D design. It wasn't until letting go of her fledgling ceramics studio and the birth of her third child that she decided to pursue her love of books in children's book illustration. After her move to the UK in 2000 with her husband and two daughters, she went back to school to earn first a BA Honours degree in children's illustration and an MA in Children's Book Illustration from the North Wales School of Art.

Over the last six years, she has taught drawing skills, visual narrative sequencing, animation, computer graphics and design at Amersham and Wycombe College and Buckinghamshire New University. The content for this workshop comes out of the material she developed in teaching digital portfolio to BA Honours Applied Graphic Design students. Currently, Anne-Marie is bringing her love of teaching and children's literature together writing for validation a new short course in children's book illustration for the Combined Arts programme. It is hoped that the course will begin in the fall of 2008. Keep informed of its progress at http://www.amersham.ac.uk . Anne-Marie also works organising and developing workshops and events for illustrators as the Illustrator Coordinator for British SCBWI.
