Miriam Halahmy

Miriam Halahmy is a novelist, short story writer and a poet. Miriam has published two collections of poetry, a novel and an education resource about refugee children in Britain today. She is currently writing a cycle of three YA novels, for 11-14 year olds, with linking characters, on an Island setting.

Miriam's short fiction for children include, Peppermint Ward, a story of children with cancer , Cancerbackup 2006 and two short stories for anthologies edited by Tony Bradman, including 'Give me Shelter', which has been short listed for the UKLA Award, 2008.

Give Me ShelterMiriam has led Creative Writing Workshops for 15 years. This year she has been Writer in Residence on a Memories project in Leicester, in conjunction with Leicester University and funded by Heritage Lottery. In July/August 2009, Miriam has been invited to be Writer in Residence in Perth , Western Australia .

Miriam is Convenor of North London SCBWI critique group, Poetry Editor of the Lapidus Quarterly, and a member of the Society of Authors.

Miriam was a teacher for twenty-five years and when she is not writing, loves to travel. She collects oceans - four so far! Her ambition is to sleep overnight on the Antarctic ice and her favourite book is The Secret Garden.
