Fiona Dunbar

Fiona Dunbar is the author of the Lulu Baker trilogy, the Silk Sisters trilogy, and Toonhead (Orchard Books).

She fell sideways into writing via illustration, which she did for a number of years. She left art college early to pursue a career as a commercial artist, then gravitated towards children’s books. Her first picture book, You’ll Never Guess! (Hutchinson) was published in 1991; this was followed by a further two, after which she illustrated numerous books both here and in the US, where she lived for four years.

It was reading stories to her own children that inspired her to try her hand at longer fiction.

Toonhead was selected for the 2008 Boys Into Books Campaign, and a TV version of the Lulu Baker trilogy is to be broadcast this autumn on CBBC.

Fiona lives in London with her American husband and their two children.
