Philip ardagh

Philip 'Beardy' Ardagh is the award-winning author of the Eddie Dickens adventures, currently available in over 30 languages. He wrote BBC Radio's first truly interactive radio drama, collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney on his first children's book and is a 'regularly irregular' reviewer of children's books for the Guardian . Married with a son, he divides his time between Tunbridge Wells and Grubtown, where he cultivates his impressive beard.

He is such a vigorous presence on Facebook that he was recently banned by the social network.

His fans and even people unfortunate enough never to have read one of his books rallied to bring him back with the Bring Back Beardy campaign. His followers wore beards on their profile pictures until he was finally allowed to return.

Philip is currently knee-deep in writing Grubtown Tales. Three have been published this year, a further three written, and a seventh will be half of one of next year's World Book Day £1 books. The Grubtown Tales series has been described as "very silly indeed" and has already induced much chortling and snorting.

Philip has assured us that he will be appearing at the conference with his beard.
