Day-Before Conference Critique Meet
Friday, November 20, 2009
This event is now closed.
A great way to break the ice, meet other SCBWI members, show off your writing or portfolios! We will split up into groups (Picture Books, Illustrators, YA, Younger Fiction) led by experienced SCBWI members to discuss each other's work. PB can bring texts to read aloud, if they wish, novelists can agree beforehand to submit chapters in advance.
Afterwards, everyone can filter off hand in hand into the sunset to sample Winchester's many excellent restaurants and bars. Our timings are to still to be confirmed but we hope to gather at 5.30pm for a 6pm critique start and finish by 8pm at the latest.
We are negotiating a venue within the campus. Please check back for more details. Sign up now and we'll email you the information.

Cover to Cover KILLER BLURB Competition
Throughout weekend
Authors: design the cover and/or back cover of your work in progress, whether it be young fiction or a picture book.
No art skills? no worries! If designing is not your style, on an A5 sheet, give us your killer blurb - your back cover text of no letting go? We're looking for good ideas here. But if you can do the art (or know someone who can help you), go ahead, exploit your friends. If your artist happens to be a SCBWI member, he or she also stands to win a prize! (Notice how we've bolded up the things that will count toward your score!)
Illustrators: design the covers of your work in progress or of any children's book that's already been published. Show us your craft with the most eye-catching, innovative front and back covers ever spotted in a SCBWI conference! Team up with an author or use your own material ...

Bring your covers and blurbs clearly labelled with the author and/or illustrator's name to display on our Brag Wall throughout the weekend and the winners will be announced at the end of the conference.
Illustration MAGIC Competition
Illustrators! This Competition brief is simple… interpret the topic ‘magic’ in an illustration appropriate for children’s publishing.
Let your creative juices flow and push past the usual rabbit in the hat…unless it’s a really great rabbit, and submit your best idea.
