candy gourlay

Candy Gourlay is a Filipino author based in the United Kingdom. Her debut novel TALL STORY has been published to rave reviews, picked for the Sunday Times 100 Best Summer Titles and the National Geographic Kids Summer Brilliant Summer Books. Tall Story will be released in hardback in the US in early 2011.

Candy reported on the fall of the Marcos dictatorship in 1986 in Manila. She married the Financial Times correspondent and ended up in England covering first world issues from a developing world perspective for the news agency IPS. In 2005, she returned to the Philippines to write and present the Radio 4 documentary, Motherless Nation about the children left behind by migrant workers. Her short story How to Build the Perfect Sandcastle was featured in the Climate Change anthology, Under the Weather. She has written a small anthology Animal Tricksters for Oxford University Press. She also writes stories for broadcast on the preschool BBC Channel, Cbeebies.
