tim hopgood

Tim Hopgood is an illustrator, designer and writer.

Tim studied illustration at Kingston Polythecnic before joining the Art department at i-D magazine working for Creative Director Terry Jones. He later moved to British Vogue (Editor Anna Wintour) where he was responsible for commissioning illustrators. In 1993 he set up Dartspace a design studio specialising in art direction and graphics for fashion retailers. Clients included; Burton Menswear, Dorothy Perkins, Dune, Next Directory, Miss Selfridge, Oasis, Principles, Wallis, Warehouse and Whistles. As a freelance illustrator, his work has appeared regularly in Tatler Magazine, Harpers & Queen, GQ and Joyce. Other clients include: The National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Court Theatre, Fouth Estate Publishers, Institute of Contemporary Art, Esprit, UPC Netherlands and Whistles. Tim's first book,'Our Big Blue Sofa' won the Cambridgeshire 'Read It Again!' Award in 2007 and was longlisted for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal. This was followed by 'A Dog Called Rod' which was shortlisted for the Red House Children's Book of the Year Award 2008 and the British Book Design Awards 2007. In 2008, Tim won the Booktrust Early Years Award for Best Emerging Illustrator for his third book 'Here Comes Frankie!' His first book for younger readers,'Wow! Said The Owl' was shortlisted for the Booktust Early Years Award 2009 and is his first book to be published in the USA. Read the Book Trust Interview
