Life is Short so Live it Wide

"Remember: life is short so live it wide" is a good line to remember Sandy by.

SCBWI will remember Sandy as a regular speaker at Writer's Day, a generous person who would think nothing of offering to read someone's manuscript or corresponding with unpublished writers in need of support long after the conference.

To all she may have touched in her work, this is a chance to leave messages and tributes which we hope will be a great comfort to her family who must be devastated by the speed with which her illness took her. Please click on the 'comments' button below to leave a message.

Her son took her to Marrakesh for Christmas and typically she enthused to a friend: "How exotic - Africa!! How many new story ideas will that produce??"

We could all learn something from sandy about how to celebrate life where it takes us.

i went to a workshop run by sandy a few years ago. she very kindly agreed to have a look at my query letter. she was not afraid to give a stranger her email and her comments really helped me and encouraged me.

I met Sandy for lunch in Dublin and we had so much in common that we emailed each other frequently from then until her untimely and premature death. What a wonderful person! She was sweet, funny, energetic, enthusiastic and brimming full of creative ideas. She threw herself 100% into everything she did and gave me heaps of support and advice on my writing. I, in turn, was honoured to be asked to read and critique some of her beautiful, lyrical work. I'll miss her bright personality and chirpy emails so much. May she rest in peace after her long fight.

From what I read, Sandy seems to have been a wonderful and amazing person.
I wish I'd had the pleasure of meeting her at some time.
I am sure her generous gifts to others will be her memorial.

March 22nd would have been my mother's 62nd birthday.

My brother and I are deeply heartened by all the lives she seems to have touched, and the knowledge that her spirit of loving encouragement has resonated in everyone she met.

Thanks to all the commenters here for their kind words of tribute.
